Dear  Sir /Madam

Greetings from the Indian Gerontological Association.

We are planning the publication of a special issue of the Indian Journal of Gerontology on "ROLE OF SPIRITUALITY AND CARE IN THE LAST PHASE OF LIFE". Specifically, Volume 30, Numbers 1 & 2 ( 2016) of the IJG will be a special issue devoted to this important topic with an emphasis on Spirituality and ageing. Because of your interest in the field of gerontology and the issues related to the care of the elderly, the Editorial Board of IJG takes pleasure in inviting you to submit a manuscript about your research, practice, or a review article for this issue.

We request that you send an abstract of your paper as early as possible to plan the issue and prevent any repetitions. We would need to receive your completed paper by the end of December. 2015. There are plans that we will publish the accepted articles in a book form.

Hoping to hear from you,

With regards,
Dr. K.L.Sharma
Editor, IJG

Ageing and dying pose a major area of concern for all of us, as well as for modern science, as we enter the 21st century. This is especially so because the population of the elderly is increasing all over the world at a great rate due to the advancement in medical science. As physical, social, and emotional help is extremely important for aged and dying people, the indispensable role of spiritual practices in providing them life satisfaction, inner happiness, and peace cannot be ignored.

The materialistic view of life where it is conceived merely as a combination of bio-molecules is unable to answer the profound and inescapable questions about the meaning and purpose of life relevant for ageing and dying. To tackle the in-depth issues of ageing and dying without invoking the deeper or spiritual dimension of life, which is to guide us about the higher meaning and purpose of life. Thus, the role of a dialogue between science and spirituality will be appropriate in solving the problems of ageing and dying.

The following are some of the topics related to the theme of the Special issue:

"ROLE OF SPIRITUALITY AND CARE IN THE LAST PHASE OF LIFE".

  1. Spirituality, Healthcare in Ayurved
  2. Spirituality and Healthcare in Allopathy
  3. End of Life Care – Palliative care and Hospice care
  4. Role of faith, prayer, and meditation at the End of Life Care
  5. Death and dying in Indian and other traditions
  6. Meaning of existence and death
  7. Pain in the last phase of life and pain clinics
  8. Role of music and End of Life Care
  9. Elderly and care provider
  10. Spiritual needs of your care recipients
  11. Care for dying in different cultures
  12. Spirituality and Healthy ageing
  13. Spirituality, religion, and ageing
  14. Meaning of life and meaning of death
  15. Any other related topic

May I request you to contribute your research or review paper on one of the topics mentioned above or on any other topic related to the theme of a special issue?

Hope to hear from you,

Thanking you,

With regards,
Dr. K.L.Sharma
